Stock Photo: Mutual Savings Bank Building 700 Market Street San Francisco 8

ID 265974496 © Peachpappa | Megapixl.com

Opened in 1902 as the Mutual Savings Bank, it was the third tallest building in an area dominated by newspaper office buildings. The building structure did survive the 1906 earthquake, but sustained major damage to the interior from the ensuing fire, which had to be repaired. In 1964 the new owners wanted to raze the building to put up a new, bugger one. The architect had to convince them not to, and even added the adjacent, five story Flannery Building instead. As seen 21 December 2022.
