A salt marsh is a unique wetlands habitat that receives waters from both the sea and fresh water down flows, making it a border region between the two. It is a landscape with both waters and fields. This unique environment has equally unique, and important, plant and animal spieces that we are only just beginning to recognize. The Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park is a 210 acre park that is remaining from a much larger salt marsh that the city of Carpinteria was built upon, long before the importance was realized. After recent restorations, native plants have been re-introduced and non-native plants removed.
