The first head shops opened in the 1960`s to the counter culture of the days. Selling drug related items, but not the drugs themselves, there were things like clothing; jewelry; bongs and books. One of the very small books that was being sold in The Psychedelic Shop was a very small booklet of poems titled `The Love Book`, which only sold about fifty copies so far. When the city police raided this shop, as well as City Lights in North Beach, to confiscate the book because of obscenity issues, publicity of the raid caused sales of the book to skyrocket.
