The Old First Presbyterian Church has its founding in San Francisco going back to May 1849 and the Gold Rush. In the decades since, they helped establish Californias first YMCA and orphanage, and the University of California Berkley. This building is their sixth building, the last one having to be dynamited because of the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. The local pastor in 1861 was able to convince the national church to stand with President Lincoln against slavery, and during WW2, were opposed to the internment of Japanese Americans. As seen 20 October 2022.
