Built in 1907 for the Independent Wood Company, they dealt with wood products for the trades such as railroad ties, posts, and the likes. Originally, and even back then, the ground floor held offices and retail shops, while a portion of the second floor was rented by sailors, with the remainder used for their own products. They moved out in 1912, after which time this building was used by various bars and or restaurants. Today is just upscale office space.
