San Franciscos historic 4th Street bridge,now named in honor of Peter R. Maloney,goes over the Mission Creek. Because San Francisco is known to have earthquakes and fires caused by them,various emergency backup systems are in place should the water supply system go down. This being a Green Dry Barrel Fire Hydrant,it means there is no water inside the barrel,instead in a dire emergency,the fire department drops a hose down to the creek below and sucks up the water. As seen 27 February 2018.
