Wells Fargo did not start out just in banking, or in San Francisco. It all started out in New York with Henry Wells and William Fargo, along with other investors, in 1852 as a banking and express mail service to help provide service to the miners and new businesses from the San Francisco Gold Rush. The newly invented telegraph helped to quickly send urgent messages back and forth, specially made boxes for transporting the gold, and scales for accurate weighing of the gold. The museum is free to visit, and photography is allowed, just, no flash please.
