Looking around almost any built up city anywhere, it is hard to imagine how different it probably was even just a hundred years ago, especially if it is one that only just started being developed just before that time. In 1846, Elijah Pell came to San Francisco with a group of other Mormons. But because he was excommunicated on the journey over, he chose to live off by himself, building what became the first home in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of San Francisco, in 1847. Pell bought the land just off the southwest corner of Laguna and Green Streets from Thomas Larkin in 1847, and it wasn`t until 1850 that Pell had any neighbors. As seen 16 November 2022.
