Like many old countries, early China had a monarchy up until fairly recent times. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen worked to overthrow that monarchy, the Qing Dynasty of Manchu China origin. The Chinese around the world celebrated this overthrow by adopting Western clothing and hairstyles, no longer wearing the long braids, the queues. Sens successor, Chiang Kai-shek, ultimately fled to Formosa, escaping the communist takeover of China, establishing Taiwan as The Republic of China. This memorial building is the first one in the United Stated dedicated to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, as seen 28 September 2022.
