Observing the cliff on which Civita di Bagnoregio rests, you can see different geological stratifications, limestone bases, sandy clays, sands and conglomerates. This profound heterogeneity is responsible for the vastness of the erosive phenomena that appear as deep `cuts` in the sides of the hills, hence the characteristic absence of vegetation in the valley. On these layers rest those created by the eruptive activity of the Vulsino volcanic complex. The magic of the badlands makes the landscape in which Civita seems to be set unique. It is no coincidence that it has recently been defined as `the pearl of the Calanques`. These are characteristic forms of erosion created by atmospheric agents over the millennia. Called `Forre della Teverina `, this territory is included in the municipalities of Bagnoregio, Castiglione in Teverina, Celleno, Civitella d`Agliano, Graffignano and Lubriano. The panorama is very impressive, especially if admired at sunset.
