Capitol Park in Downtown Detroit is so named because it was once home to the state capitol building, before it moved to Lansing, 90 miles inland. Pictured here are a large Albert Kahn-designed building, formerly the Griswold Building, which was renovated in 2014 into luxury apartments and involved the controversial eviction of low-income seniors. We also see the towering David Stott building (1929) farther down the street, designed by Detroit architect John M. Donaldson in a characteristic Art Deco style. Capitol Park has seen the renovation of most buildings facing it and has become a lively space for events and social gatherings.
