Stock Photo: Residential Power Lines, Telephone Poles Of Central Maine Power

A pole features low-voltage and residential-voltage current lines connected to two homes in Sagadahoc County, Maine in the summer of 2023. Central Maine Power has been lobbying for the construction of a new high-voltage transmission corridor to connect to the Quebec power grid, while a citizen-led initiative has been pushing for a public power option, which would mean publicly owned as opposed to an investor-owned utility. Renovation and modernization of power grids is happening broadly in the United States as part of a push toward renewable energy like solar and wind, which operate on smaller scales, whether closer or farther away from the places where the electricity is actually being used, and this has prompted reconsideration of local power grid infrastructure like these poles.
