Near Nassau’s popular port, an open-air straw market originally took up a whole block on Bay Street, with vendors who crafted straw goods and gifts. In 2001, that market burned down. So after Hurricane Irene in 2011, a concrete two-story building was built, creating a modern and air-conditioned vendor space. Bay Street has quirky shops, restaurants and bars, but bartering and handmade goods in the straw market is fun for tourists.
