The Sempervivum piloseum, Hen and chick is a true evergreen. Even the Latin name `Sempervivum` says so, translating to `Always living`. With the piloseum meaning `birds head`, you get the common name, hen and chick.
There will initially be a single, circular head, the `hen`. Over time, this one head will be covered in small spirals, the chicks.
As the `hen` dies, the `chicks` take over.
As seen in Golden Gate Park 16 June 2022.
