The San Francisco Model Yacht Club is the oldest Model Yacht Club in the entire Western Hemisphere in continuous use,going back to 1898,just seventeen years after completion of Golden Gate Park itself. It can be argued that there are some older clubs,but this is the oldest in continuous use. Originally using Stow Lake,but as that lake became more popular with real boats,the club went to the Parks Commission and had Spreckels Lake built specifically for all forms of model boats. Spreckels is the second largest lake in Golden Gate Park. As seen 29 April 2023.
