Rutgers Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt (No. 2) fakes a run while handing off to running back Kyle Monangai. Wimsatt confidence and finesse, even when under pressure from onrushing Northwestern defenders as the Scarlet Knights won their season opener at home against Big Ten Conference rival Northwestern. The signal-caller rushed for 33 yards including a 6-yard td run and passed for 169 yards and a touchdown. Monangai gained 49 yards rushing and 20 yards as a receiver running out of the backfield. The Wildcats scored in the final 20 seconds to avoid a shutout in a 24-7 loss. Coach Greg Schiano was pleased that Wimsatt didn't get down on himself when he made mistakes. He passed for 163 yards and 1 touchdown and rushed for 35 yards capped by this touchdown. The venue was SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, on September 3, 2023.
