On the banks of the Douro, Praça da Ribeira square is lined with terraced houses decorated with colorful eighteenth-century azulejos.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, the Ribeira is dotted with numerous narrow, winding alleys descending to the river.
