Pisa tower Campanile intended to shelter the bells of the Cathedral, begun in 1173, finished in 1372. After the elevation of the third floor, the subsidence of the land suspended work for 90 years. With an inclination of about 4 °, the last floor exceeds the foundations of 4.5 meters. Despite its inclination, it resisted 4 earthquakes. Major consolidation work was carried out from 1990 to 2001.
