As San Francisco became more and more of a financial and agricultural center in the eRLY 1900`S, more and more goods were flowing into and out of the city. Being also a port city, they started building piers for ship traffic, which started to open in 1918.
Due to the Loma Prieta quake of 1989, which cut off part of the cities waterfront, a major revitalization of the area added additional, safe pedestrian spaces to the area. As seen 22 June 2022.
