Petrovsky Gate is the triumphal gate of the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, located in the Petrovsky Curtain between the Sovereign and Menshikov bastions. Monument of the Petrovsky Baroque.The first Peter's Gate with a stone base and a wooden upper part, with carved decoration, was built in 1708 (completely rebuilt in stone in 1716-1717) by Domenico Trezzini. The arch is crowned by a powerful attic with a semicircular arched pediment, decorated with a wooden carved panel The Overthrow of Simon the Magus by the Apostle Peter by the sculptor Konrad Osner (according to one version, moved from the gate in 1708, according to another - made specifically for stone gates). This panel symbolizes Russia's victories in the Northern War (Simon is identified with the Swedish king Charles XII, the Apostle Peter — with Peter I). The width of the wooden bas—relief is 4.9 m, the height is 3.35 m. The gate originally housed a wooden sculpture of the Apostle Peter with two keys, flanked by Faith and Hope. On the pediment of the attic there is a high relief with the image of the blessing God of Hosts. High reliefs depicting military armor appeared in 1730. In the niches there are statues created by the French sculptor Nicolas Pinot: in the left niche of the gate there is a statue symbolizing prudence, in her hands she has a mirror and a snake: be wise as a snake, and looking in the mirror, think as you really are. In the right — bravery, on the helmet of which a Salamander is depicted.
