Originally just a two floor building for the Park Masonic Lodge #449, the second floor was a dance hall, first serving the gay community, in 1977. It was from this period that the club got the name I Beam, as gay men in hard hats and suspenders were carrying I Beams. Also, in reference to the owners dog who was named `Beamer`.
The dance music here finally came to an end in 1994 after continued complaints from neighbors about the noise. The building was completely torn down and rebuilt by this new four story building of housing and newer shops.
