With an origin in 1882 with the San Francisco Stock and Bond Exchange, in 1956, this was merged with the Los Angeles Oil Exchange, becoming `The Pacific Coast Stock Exchange`. The Los Angeles Oil Exchange itself was formed in 1899. In 1973, `Coast` was dropped from the name.
In 2005, when Archipelago Holding bought the Exchange, it was then merged with the New York Stock Exchange, enabling this building to be sold to Equinox Fitness, part of an upscale fitness company.
