Podaca is a frequently visited village in southern Dalmatia Croatia. It is part of the Makarska Riviera. It belongs administratively to the city of Gradac in the Split-Dalmatia County. The area was settled approximately 2,000 years ago by the Illyrians, and the site of the present-day town was once the Roman settlement Pitunium, which was once found by archaeological research. There is the church of Sv. Ivana from approximately 11.-12. century with the tomb of the Kacic family, a tower that was part of the defense against the Turks and old houses. Podaca, however, under its current name first appeared in 1571. It grew up on the slopes of Biokov, around the church John the Baptist.
