Pictured is a Lamentation relief in the parish Church of Saint George in the central square of Varenna on Lake Como. In the center is the dead Christ having been taken down from the cross and on the corners are four who were present, likely the three Mary's and Nicodemus. The Church of Saint George was built from 1250 to 1313. Varenna is a municipality on Lake Como in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region of Lombardy.
