Wayne County NewYorkState ranks second in the USA in apple production. The top 10 varieties are: McIntosh, Empire, Red Delicious, Cortland, Golden Delicious, Rome, Idared, Crispin, Paula Red and Gala. Favorite varieties are propagated by grafting a branch of a tree with known flavorful apples onto a sturdy trunk. Varieties can be propagated, or cloned, almost forever in this way.
