When the Hale Brothers opened their first department store in Sacramento California, in 1880, if they knew it or not, they were following a new, burgeoning trend in marketing, that was started not quite a hundred years earlier in London. As the store started to expand, they opened a new store in San Francisco in 1892, but because of already signs of mismanagement, about ten years later moved into this location at 901 Market Street, that J C Penny`s jut moved out of. Today this building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As seen 18 January 2023.
