George Haas established his first candy factory on Mint Street in San Francisco, which coincidently was not for the name of the plant herb, but the plant building right across the street, where the federal government makes the money. Although this was first opened in 1868, and making over 200 kinds of candies, he sold the business, in 1880.
Two years later he opened a new candy store, which was such a beautiful store, it was even on a postcard.
Although the new store and building both were destroyed in the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, both were rebuilt, and the store even expanded to three more site and some one thousand outlets.
With all of this apparent success, by 1940 they were out of business.
