More than 1,000 years ago, based on the theory of Yin-Yang and the five elements, the yin-yang master Abe no Seimei enshrined a deity from Kumano, Kishu, in the pentagonal shrine grounds, using an ancient stone sword as the sacred body. It is known as the only shrine in Tokyo related to Abe no Seimei.
