The Boca das Torrinhas mountain pass is located on the volcanic range that constitutes the spine of Madeira island. To the north, the levada do Urzal path descends through lush laurisilva forest towards the Boaventura valley. To the south, the deep-set valley of Curral das Freiras can be reached. The Boca das Torrinhas is also crossed by a mountain walk, the vereda da Encumeada, that reaches the island’s highest peak, the Pico Ruivo.
