Both Big Bear Lake and adjacent Baker Pond are completely dependent on runoff from the winter snow for a refill after the summer evaporation. In recent years, the snowfall has been well below normal so both the lake and pond shrank in size. The heavy winter snowfall in 2023 partly refilled both bodies of water.
