The American coot, Fulica americana, is an oddly shaped aquatic bird who many, wrongly, assume is another type of duck. But one look at their strange, lobed feet and you will instantly see they are not at all webbed like a duck. When walking, it is able to walk on a variety of surfaces, be it gravel, mud or grass, because of their feet. And to help, the flesh will even fold back if needed. As seen at Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park 10 February 2022.
