Wheat (Triticum L.) - a genus of cereals in the panicle family. It is native to southwestern and central Asia. There are about 20 species of wheat and about 10 interspecific hybrids. Next to barley, it is the most anciently cultivated cereal. It ranks third (after corn and rice) in world cereal production.
