A ceremonial elephant with a man aboard parades through the streets of Kandy in Sri Lanka during the Esala Perahera. The Esala Perahera runs every year in late July or early August for ten days, ending on the Nikini poya full moon and is held to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha which is enshrined within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. It is considered one of the most colourful processions in the world.
