A ceremonial elephant is washed by two mahouts within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy in Sri Lanka prior to the Esala Perahera. The Esala Perahera is held to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha which is enshrined within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
