A ceremonial elephant is dressed in costume prior to being lead into the Esala Perahera (procession) in Kandy in Sri Lanka. The Esala Perahera runs every year in late July or early August for ten days, ending on the Nikini poya full moon and is held to honour the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha.
