Berat is a tourist and cultural center in Albania, which is referred to as the museum city. The history of the city dates back to the 2nd century BC. The most important monument of Beratu is a castle built on a rocky hill - a fortress from the 13th century. The fortress is surrounded by historic Byzantine churches and Ottoman mosques as well as residential buildings. The city also has numerous historic buildings outside the fortress, such as the 16th-century Lead Mosque, located next to the bus station. The name of the mosque comes from the lead, which covered the domes of the temple.
