Mooring rings generally are made of metal and aremounted on a base attached to the dock or marina pontoon, allowing them to pivot through 180°. In addition to being less obtrusive than bollards and cleats, they are considered more reliable when the mooring line is attached using a bowline or a turn and half hitches.
