Lone dappled gray horse grazing on sparse grasses in the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range in southern Montana. Wild horses roam over thousands of acres of scrub rangeland without molestation from humankind. The horses travel in herds along the Bighorn River and move up and down in elevation to follow the growth of the grasslands throughout the year. This mare appears to be pregnant and will likely foal in early spring.
