The custom of welcoming guests with bread and salt, very popular in the old days in Poland, was replaced by a diplomatic etiquette not so long ago. This is how the host was welcoming the most important guests, for example heads of states. The girl, dressed in Silesian regional costume, holds a traditional bread (baken with leaven) and salt.
