Ston on the Peljesac peninsula town with the longest stone wall in Europe ( 5 , 5 km ) and the second in the world after the Great Wall of China ! The walls were reinforced with 40 towers and 5 fortresses. Originally they were long 7 km or partially destroyed in an earthquake in 1667. After the Dubrovnik Republic acquired the Peljesac peninsula in 1334 , she needed the protection of the town of Ston is launched construction of fortifications. This vast complex of Dubrovnik are built from 1334th to 1506th year. It was at that time was the largest fortified urban construction in Europe.
