Situated at the confluence of the rivers Tisa (Tisza) and Maros, often called Sunny City, Szeged city was swept away by the great floods of the Yellow Tisza in 1879, being completely rebuilt after this event. The grateful people saved from the floods build this neo-Romanesque style Bishop's Cathedral, completed in 1930. This church of compelling size-seating 5000 persons is generally called the Votive Church.
