Viorel Lis (born March 19, 1944, Zarnesti, Brasov) was mayor of Bucharest since 1997, after Victor Ciorbea became prime minister of Romania, until 2000. He resigned from the PNTCD and then founded his own party called New Democracy Party. In 2004, the New Democracy Party candidate in the mayoral general local elections in Bucharest, 2004.
