Chicago was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1871 and rebuilt, frantically, in the twenty years between 1880 and 1900. The first generation of designers who work immediately after the fire at the city's reconstruction, including engineers of great value, made in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Civil War, including excels William Le Baron Jenney (1832-1907). The most important designers of the second generation emerge from his study: Daniel Burnham (1846-1912) who works with John Root (1850-1891), William Holabird (1854-1923), Martin Roche (1855-1927) and Louis Sullivan (1856 -1924), which is associated with Dankmar Adler (1844-1900). The work of these designers, members of the movement called Chicago School has a strong, unified - especially between 1879 and 1893 - which depends on the particular features of the Loop, the business center of Chicago.
