The University of Texas’ clock tower is a Beaux Art-style tower completed in 1937. It stands at 307 feet tall in Austin, TX and and the fourth highest college clocktower in the world. The clock’s four faces measure 12 feet across. Sadly, a mass shooting took place here in 1966, when Charles Whitman shut himself in on the observation deck with a rifle and killed 14 people and wounded 31 others. Police eventually killed Whitman. Bullet holes still mark the tower’s facade.
