ID 308796057 © Djpillow | Megapixl.com

Pictured is a Turkey vulture perched in a red mangrove tree on the edge of Chokoloskee Bay in Florida. The turkey vulture, binomial name Cathartes aura, is a scavenger and feeds almost exclusively on carrion. The turkey vulture received its common name from the resemblance of the adult's bald red head and its dark plumage to that of the male wild turkey. Chokoloskee Bay is roughly 10 miles long and 2 miles wide. It is located along Florida's Gulf Coast and is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by the Ten Thousand Islands.
