The Walking Tree (Socratea exorrhiza) is a palm native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Its roots are special because they grow out of the ground and make stilts to hold up the stem. Some people think that this tree can move around by making new roots where it wants to go and letting the old roots die, but there is no scientific evidence for this. The bark is rough and dark brown in color. It can be split into narrow sections by striking it with an axe, and it is used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments.
