ituated at an elevation of 6225 ft above sea level, Pattipola is the tallest railway station in Sri Lanka. Pattipola is a popular railway station for both local and foreign tourists. From Colombo you can reach Pattipola directly. It was on the Colombo-Badulla train.Pattipola Railway Station is one of the most unique railway stations on the Kandyan Railway. This tunnel is the third longest tunnel (321.95 m) in Sri Lanka and the tallest tunnel in the country. The tunnel is narrow and therefore the midpoint is very dark. The tunnel (1919) was built and repaired several times.The northern side of the tunnel travels to the province, Badulla district and Welimada division. The southern end of the tunnel belongs to the Central Province, Nuwara Eliya District and Pattipola Division, the Welimada Zone to the Dry Zone and the other end to the Wet Zone of Sri Lanka. You can experience this as you walk through this tunnel from one end to the other.
