Zermatt is a municipality in the canton of Valais in Switzerland, famed as a mountaineering and ski resort of the Swiss Alps. It lies at the upper end of Matter Valley at the foot of Matterhorn Mountain. The Ibex Fountain shows a beautiful ibex in bronze, modelled on a real creature, a magnificent male that was killed by an avalanche. The rock that forms the base of the fountain among the depot of glacial erratics at the Taschwang.
