Toshogu shrine is the final stop of the Tokugawa family which was built by the Tokugawa Shogunate 250 years ago. Leyasu is treated as a sacred treasure in Toshogu and as the miraculous power of Tosho Daigongen. Toshogu is originally just a simple mausoleum, it was then expanded into an impressive complex that we see today. Toshogu shrine is named after the name of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. He died in 1616 and his son chose Nikko as the place to build the shrine. This building has been rebuilt by the grandson of Leyasu in the first half of 1600s.
