Thick Tower Sibiu (German Dicker Turm) is a tower built in the sixteenth century in the city of Sibiu, which was part of the fortifications later incorporated belt defense of the city. It is located on City and Coposu Boulevard (formerly Avenue 23 August from the communist period). The building of the tower was installed in 1788 the first theater of the city, founded by typographer Martin Hochmeister. Here were organized theatrical performances until 1949, when the hall was damaged by fire. After the repair work on the tower platform was arranged club Independence plant. Since 2004, here is Thalia State Philharmonic of Sibiu. III enclosure assembly Sibiu medieval city fortifications, which include defensive Towers, Tower Carpenters Tower Potters, Gunsmiths Tower, Tower Gateway and curtains erected in the period 1357-1366 was included in the list of historical monuments in county Sibiu in 2004, with classification code SB-II-mA-12010.03. Among the components of this precinct is included Gros Bastion today theater, located between str. Fortress no. 5 and bd. Hospitals. Also Thalia (city theater from 1788 to 1945), building on Tower Street Gros and lying. Fortress no. 5, is included on the same list with the code SB-II-mB-12070.
